In March 2020, the organization announced the name of its 10-year plan to end homelessness and prevent hunger following a community survey taken for possible names. The new title, ONE COLLIER: A Community Alliance to Prevent & End Homelessness, earned 50 percent of the vote. Under the new plan, the organization's Continuum of Care (CoC) Executive Committee has announced special sub-committees to tackle issues such as employment, housing affordability, education and advocacy, and special populations. In order to achieve the goals of the 10-year plan, the coalition's CoC executive leadership team plans on involving community leadership through these sub-committees. In line with this goal, it will be selecting members of CoC to chair the committees.

Alongside his work as a successful real estate developer, Kurt Lutgert authors books on spiritual development and the concept of whole love. Kurt Lutgert is also an active philanthropist and supports the academic achievement of disadvantaged students through his service with the college-readiness program Take Stock in Children (TSIC).
According to 2019 figures released by the U.S. Department of Education, less than 40 percent of students receive Pell Grants, a need-based grant offered to students with annual household incomes lower than $40,000 complete college within eight years. Even with Pell Grant assistance, however, economically disadvantaged students continue face a myriad of obstacles when navigating higher education. Some of the most common reasons for attrition (drop-out rates) include a lack of funding to pay for tuition and intense work schedules that can interfere with academic success. Many low-income students are also the first in their families to attend college. As a result, they have little insight into the college experience and may not be aware of available resources. For this reason, organizations like TSIC offer one-on-one coaching and mentoring alongside financial aid to ensure students receive the support needed to remain on track and graduate. An author and philosopher, Kurt Lutgert is currently writing several books focused on spiritual development, the first of which is titled Whole Light Alignment. To give back to his community, Kurt Lutgert supports charitable organizations such as Take Stock in Children. Active in more than 800 Florida schools, Take Stock in Children connects students with college coaches who help them create individualized study plans and monitor their progress. Additionally, the program provides college readiness workshops, interview support, and tuition scholarships for students who successfully fulfill program requirements. Over the past 20 years, the program has helped thousands of students develop effective study skills and pursue higher learning opportunities. According to an independent U.S. Department of Education evaluation, 96 percent of program participants graduated from high school on time, while 85 percent needed no remediation of any kind. In addition, 67 percent of Take Stock in Children students completed college, compared to a statewide average of 25 percent of students living in poverty. The recipient of a bachelor's degree in religion and philosophy from Duke University, Kurt Lutgert serves as the vice president of a Florida-based real estate development company. Beyond his professional pursuits, Kurt Lutgert is a supporter of Take Stock in Children, a nonprofit that works to break the cycle of poverty by providing academic opportunities to students from families with low incomes.
One of the ways Take Stock in Children supports academic enrichment is through its Leaders for Life (L4L) fellowship program, which allows fellows to focus solely on their studies instead of worrying about the financial burdens associated with obtaining a university degree. The program has been in operation since 2011, and 100 percent of its fellows from 2011, 2012, and 2013 have graduated from a four-year university or college. Six high school seniors are chosen for the fellowship each year. Benefits include housing, meal plans, computers, and books and supplies. Graduates of the program have worked or held internships with high-profile companies such as Google, Bank of America, Verizon, Honeywell, and Boeing. Before becoming vice-president of The Lutgert Companies in Naples, Florida, Kurt Lutgert attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where he earned a bachelor of arts in religion and philosophy. Kurt Lutgert also obtained an MBA from the Duke University Fuqua School of Business. Established in 1969, the Fuqua School of Business MBA program at Duke University is designed to help its students value and appreciate differences within the professional community. The Fuqua Business program also helps students understand technical aspects of management procedures along with the value of research and education in career development generally. The Business MBA program at the Fuqua School of Business is structured to provide students with the flexibility to study according to their schedules or lifestyles. Fuqua offers regular daytime MBA programs as well as a weekend executive MBA, a Global Executive MBA, and a Cross Continent MBA program that allows students to take MBA courses online, through distance learning. Kurt Lutgert is a spiritual development author and speaker who received his bachelor's degree in religion and philosophy from Duke University in 1995. Supplementing his extensive background in spirituality, Kurt Lutgert performs roughly three hours of meditation and exercise every day, including resistance training. Resistance training requires minimal space and equipment and can generally be performed at home instead of going to a gym. Below are three types of resistance exercises you can try in the comfort of your own home. 1. Plank. A critical exercise for preventing lower back pain and tightening your core, planking is similar to a push-up, except you simply hold a raised position for up to two minutes. Begin by lying on your stomach, and bracing your core muscles, raise yourself with elbows and toes while keeping your buttocks level with your shoulders. 2. Straight leg raises. While lying flat on your back and engaging your core, bend one leg up and keep the other straight on the ground. Tighten the quad muscle in the straight leg; raise it until both thighs are parallel, and hold the position for five seconds before lowering it to just above the floor. For best results, do two sets of 10 reps with each leg, increasing reps as your performance improves. 3. Bicep curl. Stand atop a resistance band with both feet, and hold both ends of the band with your palms facing upwards. Keep your feet aligned with your hips, your elbows pinned to your sides, and pull the band up until your elbows are at 90-degree angles. In early 2017, the organization announced that it had received a $3.5 million investment from Helios Education Foundation to spearhead a regional scaling pilot program. The investment will help the program expand in Osceola and Orange Counties, implement data science analytics, and offer 300 additional scholarships. Helios Education Foundation understands that education can change lives and transform communities, and expressed its pride in helping Take Stock in Children expand its reach to even more low-income students to help them reach their fullest potential. |
