Alongside his work as a successful real estate developer, Kurt Lutgert authors books on spiritual development and the concept of whole love. Kurt Lutgert is also an active philanthropist and supports the academic achievement of disadvantaged students through his service with the college-readiness program Take Stock in Children (TSIC).
According to 2019 figures released by the U.S. Department of Education, less than 40 percent of students receive Pell Grants, a need-based grant offered to students with annual household incomes lower than $40,000 complete college within eight years. Even with Pell Grant assistance, however, economically disadvantaged students continue face a myriad of obstacles when navigating higher education. Some of the most common reasons for attrition (drop-out rates) include a lack of funding to pay for tuition and intense work schedules that can interfere with academic success. Many low-income students are also the first in their families to attend college. As a result, they have little insight into the college experience and may not be aware of available resources. For this reason, organizations like TSIC offer one-on-one coaching and mentoring alongside financial aid to ensure students receive the support needed to remain on track and graduate.
