The recipient of a bachelor's degree in religion and philosophy from Duke University, Kurt Lutgert serves as the vice president of a Florida-based real estate development company. Beyond his professional pursuits, Kurt Lutgert is a supporter of Take Stock in Children, a nonprofit that works to break the cycle of poverty by providing academic opportunities to students from families with low incomes.
One of the ways Take Stock in Children supports academic enrichment is through its Leaders for Life (L4L) fellowship program, which allows fellows to focus solely on their studies instead of worrying about the financial burdens associated with obtaining a university degree. The program has been in operation since 2011, and 100 percent of its fellows from 2011, 2012, and 2013 have graduated from a four-year university or college. Six high school seniors are chosen for the fellowship each year. Benefits include housing, meal plans, computers, and books and supplies. Graduates of the program have worked or held internships with high-profile companies such as Google, Bank of America, Verizon, Honeywell, and Boeing.
